About
Fortunately, it wasn’t anything specific to cause this to be a “have-to” project, but we knew enough from others recent bad experiences and our own research to know that the swivel set-up we’ve had since we purchased the boat wasn’t ideal. With the real possibility of hands-on experience, and most likely when we could least can afford to have it go wrong, we had been looking at other set-ups and rigs to change to. Our set-up was a very basic swivel that connected to the anchor via a standard shackle and seizing wire. With cruising season (and anchoring out more frequently) on our horizon, we were still looking for the best solution. Mantus came out with their new swivel set-up and once we saw the substantial upgrade to our set-up, it seemed like the right change to make us.
Parts
What parts were purchased and how much they were? We purchased the S2 Mantus Swivel for $120 plus shipping. There were no additional parts necessary to purchase as the Mantus Swivel came with everything needed, except tools, to install including teflon tape and tie wire.
Tools
This was a straightforward project needing no more than an adjustable wrench and a pair of needle-nose pliers.
Thumbs Up
Installation was easier than expected because Mantus provides all the necessary items in the box.
Thumbs Down
On this project, nothing
Put To The Test – How Did It Perform?
We’ve been using this on our anchor set-up for four months now in three different anchorages near the Tampa-bay area and are pleased with.
Lessons Learned
We have looked at this swivel before and had researched it enough to know it was definitely the option we wanted to go with. We saw it at the St. Petersburg Boat Show in December and could have gotten show pricing, but just weren’t ready to pull the trigger. Still worth the money for us, but we did pay a little extra plus shipping costs when we ordered it as CJ’s Christmas Present.
